Camp Billy Gibbons 5 Year Plan

In our council we have a great pride and tradition called Camp Billy Gibbons. It is the responsibility of the Camping Committee and the Council Executive Board to see that these traditions are maintained, but not at the reputation of our camp or the sacrifice that will make camp obsolete. Therefore we must always "Be Prepared" to make camp a Better facility for those who attend Camp Billy Gibbons. The Camping Committee has worked long and hard to determine what is in best for the Scouts and Scouters of the Comanche Trail Council. There are many improvements the committee feels need to be improved over the next several years. Some of these items require little less than a couple weekends of labor, others on the other hand will require effort and financial support to see that the needs are met.

A.  Camp Sites North End of Camp -  The north end of camp needs lots of improvement. Rock trails that mark the campsites need to be added. There is a lot of brush in the North Parking lot that needs to be burned. There is always a need for trees to be trimmed and rocks to be cleared. New signs need to be made for all campsites including the south end campsites. All the latrines need new roofs and replacement boards in some of the facility areas.
B.  The Opening Campfire ring is in need of some new boards for seating. There is also some need for cleaning up of brush and grass around the area. C.  In the Staff area there is a need for some more platforms for the staff. Also in this area a staff shower needs to be added for the staff.
D. The Health Lodge needs to be relocated to an area closer to the main area of camp. This way we can utilize the facility during year round camp and its more accessible for all campers.
E.  A new kitchen facility needs to be added to our dining hall.  The equipment is out of date and most is becoming hard to repair. By adding a new kitchen the old kitchen space can be utilized as dining space.
F.  The swamp coolers in the dining hall need to be replaced and all moved to the back of the building to create a blow across the eating area.
G.  A larger camp office and centralized storage space is also needed as an improvement to camp.  This will also free up more space in the dining hall.
H. The council ring needs to be made larger and new benches are needed for the Parents Night.
I.   The Gee Lodge needs new rafters and a new roof.
J.  The old cook shack needs to be removed or repaired. At its present location has become a junkyard" were an accumulation of old and unused material has been located because no one knows were to put it.
K. The backside of the Chapel entrance needs to be finished. The trail to the chapel also needs to be repaired with some rocks to make the trail more visible. The podium needs to be moved from behind the tree so that it may be more easily used.
L.  The area of the old rifle range needs to be cleaned up and can be transformed into a more usable area.
M.  The area along Brady Creek needs to be cleaned up and brush removed so the area can be better utilized.
N.  The swimming area where the canoes are stored during camp need repairs. The stands are rotted and need replacement. The roof at the water front also needs repair.
O. The south parking lot needs some rocks removed and some brush needs to be burned.
