Cub Scout Outdoor Programs

Camping

Age-appropriate camping programs are packed with theme-oriented action that brings Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts into the world of imagination. Day camping comes to the boy in neighborhoods across the country; resident camping is at least a three-day experience in which Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts camp within a developed theme of adventure and excitement.

"Cub Scout Worlds" are used by many councils to carry the world of imagination into reality with actual theme structures of castles, forts, ships, etc. Cub Scout pack members enjoy camping in local council camps and council-approved national, state, county, or city parks. Camping programs combine fun and excitement with doing one's best, getting along with others, and developing an appreciation for ecology and the world of the outdoors.

Tiger Day Camp
Tiger Day camp is a single day outing for current and new Tiger Cubs and their Adult partners.  It is usually filled with fun and adventure with multitudes of games and activities.  This will probably be their first taste of Scouting and is designed to leave them wanting more.  Instilled with the Spirit of Scouting, this Tiger will eventually become and Eagle.

Cub & Me
This is an overnight camping experience for all Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos and their parent(s) and usually runs from Friday night until noon on Sunday.  Arrival on Saturday morning is permissible, but you want to arrive early before the events begin.

Scouts will enjoy Crafts, Nature, Swimming, BB, Archery, and games galore.  There is also an awesome campfire planned for Saturday night.  (Scout and Adult health forms are required since overnight camping is involved)

Fun and Son
This weekend is for Cub Scouts and their Parent(s) who want to spend time together doing FUN stuff!  Activities usually include: BB guns, Archery, Crafts, as well as many more.  It's a great weekend for parents to spend some time with thier son, making memories that will last a lifetime!  It's also a weekend of excitement and adventure in the woods for Cub Scouts, spending time with their Mom and/or Dad, learning and doing lots of fun activities.  It is usually held at  Camp Billy Gibbons, on the shores of beautiful Brady Creek.

Twilight Camp
Twilight Camp is usually three evenings of fun and adventure with no overnight camping involved.  Abilene, Sweetwater, and Coleman are the usual cities that host the event but others may be included if enough people want it.  Each location has a different date for the event to accommodate the most boys possible.

At Twilight Camps, Cub Scouts Swim, Learn about Nature and the Outdoors, play games, build Crafts, and can earn the Archery and BB-gun Belt Loops. It’s a lot of fun, and they earn advancements.

Friday is usually Family night at camp. All families are invited to bring a picnic dinner and join in the Family games and a closing campfire.  It is open to all registered Tiger Cubs, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos.

Cub Scout Day Camp
Cub Scout Day Camp is a week long day camping experience.  It is for all registered Cub Scouts entering 1st - 5th grade (Tiger Cubs, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos) and usually runs from 8 - 5 Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Friday.  The days are filled with games and activities such as crafts, nature, BB, Archery, Swimming, and Special programs.  Friday is an extended schedule with an opportunity for the parents to bring out dinner and participate in a special program, awards and recognition ceremony, and a closing campfire.  This is truly a special week for all Cub Scouts and volunteers.

Webelos Resident Camp    Camp Tonkawa    Camp Billy Gibbons
Webelos Camp is usually a four day, three night overnight camping experience and is probably their first "long term" campout.  This is probably their first time away from home camping without their parents and is a memorable experience.

Only Webelos Scouts are eligible for Webelos Camp.  They will be Camping overnight and enjoying activities like Swimming, Archery, BBs, Games, Crafts, Nature, and much more! Webelos Resident Camp is a great opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors while learning camping skills and earning advancements while having more fun than barrel of monkeys!  (A Scout health form is required since overnight camping is involved)

Family Camp
Family Camp is usually Friday night through Sunday noon.  It is the first camping opportunity of the Scouting year so all new Cub Scouts are encouraged to attend.  Since winter is usually right around the corner, it is also usually the last camping opportunity for Cub Scouts until the weather warms up.

It is a campout for all Cub Scouts and their Families, including Mon, Dad, Brothers and Sisters. This is a fun time spent together, relaxing and learning in the outdoors before winter arrives. You’ll cook your own meals outdoors, over an open fire if you like. Planned activities usually include BB shooting, Archery, a Nature Hike, Crafts, Games and Contests (Family Olympics, Volleyball, etc), T-Shirt Silk Screening, a Scavenger Hunt, and a Mystery Contest. Explore Camp Tonkawa, meet new Friends, and enjoy Scouting in the Great Outdoors! There is also usually a Saturday Night Campfire, with songs, skits, and lots of fun. Don’t miss the fun!!!

Webelos Woods
Webelos Woods is an outdoor program activity designed to aid in the Webelos-to-Scout transition plan. Webelos Scouting and the activities of the Webelos den form a natural stepping stone for the Webelos Scout and his parent to move into Boy Scouting. The purpose of this outdoor experience is to create in all Webelos Scouts a genuine desire to know more about Boy Scouting, and through a fun-filled series of events, to give them a preview of the thrills of Scout skills and camping.

Webelos Woods is an event conducted by the sharpest Boy Scouts in the Council for those boys who are on the threshold of entering the Troop program. Webelos Woods shows the fun and skills of Boy Scouting. It offers an opportunity for parents to gain perspective on Troop programming and the opportunity to "graduate" along with their son(s). While at this event, parents should seek information about camping plans, meeting times, advancement plans, etc. As a result of this program, you should come away with:

As always, please contact the Scout Service Center for more information and the date of the next event.
