WEBELOS CAMP 2009

WHERE:              Camp Tonkawa in beautiful Buffalo Gap, Texas!

WHO:     If you are a Webelos Scout, or will be by June 1st Webelos Resident Camp is the place to be this summer!!

WHAT/WHY:       Only Webelos Scouts are eligible for the Webelos Camp at Camp Tonkawa, and we will be camping overnight and enjoying activities like Swimming, Archery, BB’s, Games, Crafts, Nature, and much more!  Webelos resident Camp is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while learning camping skills and earning advancements while you have more fun than you can imagine!

WHEN:       Webelos Resident Camp will begin at 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 5th, and will end after the closing campfire (approx. 8:30 PM) Wednesday, July 8th.  

HOW:       Webelos Den Leaders MUST register their campers as a group, and individual campers should not submit their paper work directly to the Council Service Center. To register for Webelos Resident Camp, fill out the attached form. Each Webelos Den MUST provide at least one registered adult leader for every 4 campers. For Example 10 Webelos needs 3 adults. The Maximum size of each Den is 12 Webelos scouts.

  1. The Registration fee of $110 per Webelos and $70 per Adult (Must be registered as an adult leader) includes meals, insurance, a patch and T-Shirt for those registering before June 8th.    Registrations received after June 8th will have additional late fee of $25 per person, so be sure and get yours in as soon as possible!   Must be received by June 8th, or a t-shirt can not guaranteed.
  2. If you need a tent, cot, or sleeping bag, you can rent one from the Camp Quartermaster.
  3. Guest Meals may be paid for at the Dining Hall, but 48 hours advance notice is required. Please let us know at 325-677-2688.
  4. Additional T-shirts may be ordered when you register. We should have a limited number of T-shirts for sale at the Camp Trading Post.
  5. If you are transporting a Webelos Scout other than your son, a tour permit must be filed with the Council Service Center 2 weeks in advance, also the driver must have completed youth protection training; hazardous weather training is also required to be covered by the Scout Insurance.
  6. ALL Webelos and Adult overnighters MUST have a BSA Health form with Parts A, B and C completed and signed by a physician with them when they check in.   Adults not staying overnight must have a BSA Health form with Parts A and C completed with them when they check in. These health forms will be kept on file at the Health Lodge, and will be returned to the Den Leaders at check-out.  Health Forms are available at the Council Office, or go to the Forms page.
  7. Items to Bring:
    1. Camping Gear (tent, cot, sleeping bag, pillow, folding chair or stool, etc.)
    2. Medications (as needed, in original prescription bottles. All medications will be stored in the Health Lodge by the Camp Health Officer)
    3.  Clothes for 4 days/ 3 nights:

1.      A Scout Uniform (field uniform shirt) is required at evening flags and dinner, the rest of the time Activity Uniform (shorts and a scouting T-shirt) are fine.

2.      Sturdy, closed-toe shoes.  No open-toe shoes or sandals in camp for anyone.

3.      Hat/ Sun screen  - Keep yourself from becoming a lobster

4.      Swim suit and towel        

    1. Flash light w/extra batteries, raingear (we’re hopeful!!).
    2. Camp cup w/handle (to be used during the day AND AT ALL MEALS)
    3. Bug spray (non-aerosol pump sprays are recommended)
    4. Tooth brush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.
    5. Money for Trading Post / Snack Bar (our experience is that the “average camper” spends $30-$50 at our camps).
    6. Whatever else you think you might need for campsite
    7. DO NOT BRING ELECTRONICS (games, MP-3s, phones, TV’s, etc.)
    8. Emergencies- If you need to get a message to your camper during Webelos Resident Camp, contact the Camp @ 325-572-3337 or the Service Center 325-677-2688, 1-888-407-2688.  

Perhaps some of your younger Scouts would like to have an opportunity to serve on the Webelos & Cub Scout camp staff for ONLY one fun filled week between July 5th and July 10th? Eligible Scouts will need to be at least 14 years old on July 1st to serve as Webelos Camp Staff. Webelos staffers will be staying in the staff quarters or dedicated campsite together thru at least Wednesday, and may continue overnight thru the conclusion of Cub Camp on Friday evening. The minimum age requirement for the Cub Scout Staffer is Boy Scout Age by June 1st. Younger Day camp staff persons may also camp thru the week at Tonkawa, if they choose to do so. Meals will be provided at the dining hall during this week of Cub Scout activity for those camping staffers.

The Cub Scout Day Camp Staff Application is specifically for the Webelos/Cub Scout camp program. Please make your Scouts aware of this opportunity for a short week of; service and fun; camping at Tonkawa; assisting the Cub Scouts.
