 Dear Scouter;

           I want to personally invite you to attend Texas Trails Council’s Timber Tag 85 at Camp Billy Gibbons, November 8-6, and November 22-23, 2008 or  Timber Tag 86 at Camp Tonkawa February 28-March 1 and March 21-23, 2009.   This course combines and enhances Boy Scout Leader Fast Start and Scoutmastership training, which results in an improved Boy Scout program for our youth and makes you a trained leader.  I would like you to view Timber Tag training as an investment in yourself, your unit, and in the Boy Scout program.  You will discover that you will use everything you learn.

Timber Tag is an intensive four days of Boy Scout Leader training in Troop operation and Scouting skills.  During your four-day experience you will be living with a group of Scouters in an outdoor environment.  You will be introduced to outdoor skills and Scouting methods applicable to your development and the development of your Scouts.  You will develop an understanding of these skills and learn ways to use them.

           We endeavor to teach you the skills necessary to be effective in your unit.  We will show you the skills from the Boy Scout Handbook because that is the way you will teach your Scouts.  We will use the Patrol Method of operation because we have found that throughout the years – IT WORKS!  You will also become familiar with the operation of a Boy Scout Troop and its committee.

Timber Tag is a MUST for Webelos leaders getting themselves and their boys ready for Boy Scouting, for adults who just joined a Troop and want to know what its all about and what they can do to help, and for all other Boy Scout Leaders who need to be trained.  At the completion of the course you will be a trained Boy Scout Leader.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • You must be currently registered as a Scouter

  • You must be 21 years of age unless you are an ASM, then you must be over 18

  • You must have a Class 3 medical exam form showing physical ability to participate in this experience.  You will be required to take a short backpacking hike and spend the night outdoors.

This invitation is limited so sign up now!

           This Timber Tag Course is limited to 32 participants.  DELAY COULD COST YOU a chance to participate!  The time is now to fill out your acceptance form and send it in.  We want you to come and join in on the learning, fun, and Scouting fellowship.

Timber Tag encompasses New Leader Essentials, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.  It is designed for Scout leaders that will be working directly with the boys and want a better understanding of Troop operations.  You will be able to proudly wear the “Trained” strip after completing this course.
