Well, it sure is a long time before the course, Why talk about it now?

Wood Badge training is one of the most highly sought after training courses in the Boy Scouts of America.  These courses typically fill up in a hurry.  Only 48 participants will be allowed in the course and there is generally a waiting list to get in.  The course is only offered occasionally as it requires approval of the Southern Region for the council to provide a course and regional approval of both the course director and backup course director.

HOW TO QUALIFY

To participate in the Wood Badge experience you must:

  1. Be a currently registered adult Scouter and active in a unit, district, or council
  2. Be at least 18 years of age
  3. Have completed basic training for your current Scouting Position

WHAT IS ALL THIS TALK ABOUT A TICKET?

At the conclusion of the six days of practical training, each participant has up to 18 months to complete the application phase and meet all of the goals that have been established in the Wood Badge ticket.  The Wood Badge ticket represents the participant's commitment to complete a set of personal goals relating to that individual's Scouting position.  These goals are decided upon by you and your coach councilor.

HOW DO YOU RECOGNIZE SOMEONE WHO HAS FINISHED WOOD BADGE?

Upon completion, the participant will be presented with the Wood Badge certificate, the neckerchief, woggle, and beads at an appropriate public ceremony.

The two distinctive beads worn by an individual who has completed the Wood Badge application phase is the mark of knowledge, experience, and dedication.
