Cub Scout Parent Information Guide
Online Resources
To assist Cub Scout leaders, the
following resources are available online:
General Resources
- A monthly newsletter and an
annual pack calendar can be two of the most important tools in
publicizing the pack's excitement and fun year-round. At pack
meetings, you can put up a poster-style version of the newsletter to
keep everyone informed.
- Cub Scout leaders should
strive to use Cub Scouting's 12 Core Values throughout all elements
of the program—service projects, ceremonies, games, skits, songs,
crafts, and all the other activities enjoyed at den and pack
meetings.
- This brochure provides an
overview of all the resources available to you as a Cub Scout
leader, including literature, training opportunities, special
programs, areas of emphasis, and other tools for success.
-
The
purpose of the
Guide to Safe Scouting is to prepare
adult leaders to conduct Scouting activities in a safe and prudent
manner.
-
-
Use of Organization Identity and Program
Symbols
- These
two resources provide information about the terms and style
associated specifically with Scouting as well as the proper use of
trademarks and signature artwork. Refer to these guides when
preparing any unit publication to ensure correct and consistent use
of our terms and logos.
-
Program Planning
- This brochure was developed
to help leaders get a new or reorganized unit off to a great start.
-
This
brochure is also available
in Spanish.
- The Cub Scout Leader Kit is
provided by local councils to Cub Scout leaders in the fall of each
year to help them get their units off to a successful start.
- This brochure provides a
quick overview of the Cub Scout program along with helpful
information for new leaders.
- If there are any new boys in
your Wolf, Bear, or Webelos den, use these program ideas to help
them earn their Bobcat badge, which every boy in Cub Scouting must
complete.
-
For
your convenience, the current and next month's program helps (from
the annual Program
Helps publication) can be downloaded
from this Web site.
- Here's a look ahead at the
monthly program themes for Cub Scouting for the next few years.
- This plan is geared to help
you provide funding for you pack's annual program, obtain sufficient
resources for activities, and involve the youth members and their
families in the planning process
Conducting Activities
- This brochure contains
information about Leave No Trace, a plan that helps people protect
the environment for future generations, as well as the Leave No
Trace Award program.
- Enlisting the assistance of
the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's "brotherhood of cheerful
service," in your camping program can benefit both your pack and the
OA lodge.
- Most boys join Cub Scouting
because of the outdoor activities. The guidelines and tips provided
by this publication will help you to deliver a safe and fun-filled
outdoor program.
- Program-specific criteria are
designed to assist unit leaders in determining what activities are
age-appropriate for their participants.
Advancement and Awards
- Tiger Cubs, Wolf and Bear Cub
Scouts, and Webelos Scouts have the opportunity to earn the Cub
Scout Outdoor Activity Award. Boys may earn the award in each of the
program years as long as the requirements are completed each year.
- Recognition
awards are available to Cub Scout leaders who complete training,
tenure, and performance requirements.
- Indicates how a pack and
troop can work together to facilitate the boys' transition from
Webelos to Boy Scouts.
