BILLY M. HOOD
He grew up in east Texas, attended school there, and graduated from Texas A & M in 1967. He and Elaine have 3 children. Brad, their son, is an Eagle Scout.
He has been active in the Boy Scout movement since he became a member of Cub Pack 149, East Texas Area Council, as a boy. He attained the rank of Star in the Boy Scouts and is a holder of the God and Country Award. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in the Tejas Lodge in 1958 and has been an active Lodge member since that time.
As an adult Scouter, Billy has served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for 2 years in Troop 258, Greater Nevada Area Council; as a member and Committee Chairman in Troop 344, Circle Ten Council; and was one of the organizers of Troop 149, Blackwell, Texas. He has served this Troop as the Assistant Scoutmaster and is now the Scoutmaster. He is the Roundtable Commissioner and Training Chairman for the Northern District. He is a Vigil member of the Kotso Lodge, where he is very active with the Dance Team. He is also a member of the 1989 Jamboree Committee and is working as the Assistant Quartermaster for Timber Tag.
Billy’s personal Scout leadership training includes several Cub Scout training courses, Timber Tag, and Train-The-Trainer. He has completed the first phase of his Wood Badge training and is presently "working his ticket".
Billy is also very involved in his community. He has worked with the 4-H Club since his graduation from Texas A & M in positions such as leader and teacher. He has worked with the Girl Scouts where his two daughters are members. He has held the office of President of the Henderson County Farm Bureau and Assistant Fire Chief of the Larue Volunteer Fire Department. He has also served in the PTO on numerous projects and activities including coaching "Little Dribbler’s" and announcing football games. He is a member of the Blackwell United Methodist Church. He has held several offices on the governing board of the church as well as teaching Sunday School and working with youth groups.
A quiet, unassuming man, Billy can always be found working wherever he is needed, without any thought of reward. It is impossible to measure the influence he has had on the youth of his community and our council. It is with great pleasure that the Chisholm Trail Council presents the Silver Beaver Award to Billy M. Hood.
