DR. CHARLES H. MARLER
He became a Cub Scout in Rogers, Arkansas in 1944 and has continued his involvement in Scouting from that time. In Abilene he has served as a Committee Member and Webelos Leader of Pack 271, and was Scoutmaster of Troop 201 for ten years. He has served as Troop Committee Chairman and continues as a member of the committee. He is a graduate of Timber Tag 34 and Wood Badge SC 126. He has been Crew Adviser for the Council Philmont Expedition, Course Director for Eagle Mountain ‘81, Assistant Course Director for Wood Badge SC 208, Chairman of the 1985 Council Jamboree Committee, Member of the National Jamboree Staff, and presently is on the Council Executive Board and Chairman of the Phase III Committee for Camp Tonkawa Development. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and holds the Scouter’s Key and the District Award of Merit.
He received a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in Journalism and is Chairman of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications for Abilene Christian University. He has received many professional awards including the A.C.U. Trustees Award for Outstanding Teacher of 1987.
He is an Elder in the University Church of Christ and a Trustee for the Christian Village of Abilene. He is the National Secretary and Chairman-elect for the Members of Churches of Christ for Scouting.
His wife, Peggy, was a Den Mother in Pack 217 and they have three Eagle Scout sons -David, Todd, and Scott.
It is with great pleasure that the Chisholm Trail Council presents the Silver Beaver Award to Dr. Charles H. Marler.
