Distinguished Citizen Award

Dr. Jim Terrell

Dr. Jim Terrell was born in Stephenville, where he attended school and graduated in 1953.  He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a B. A. in 1957.  While in U. T., he was active in Alpha Phi Omega, Cowboys, and Friars.  Jim graduated from the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston in 1960 and was initiated into Alpha Omega Alpha for honor graduates.  He returned to north Texas to do a four year general surgery residency at Southwestern Medical School.  He has participated in the medical community as a general surgeon for thirty-five years.

Jim and Barbara met in college and married in 1957.  They have four children: Alisa Terrell Starbird, Houston; James Terrell III, Austin and Stephenville; Randall Terrell and wife, Christine, Austin; Julie Terrell Oliver, Glen Rose.  They are most proud of their seven grandsons: Ryan and Gregory Starbird, Dean Terrell, Joseph and David Oliver, Doran and Fletcher Terrell.

Jim has been actively involved in his church, Boy Scouts (Silver Beaver Recipient), Harris Methodist Foundation, Harris Methodist Hospital System, Board of Stephenville Bank and Trust / First Financial Bank, Stephenville School Board, volunteer Physician at HOPE Clinic, American Cancer Society (State President of the Texas Division) Surgical Societies and Ranching.

As a husband, father, grandfather, leader, mentor, neighbor, friend and physician; Dr. Jim Terrell is truly our Distinguished Citizen.
