Distinguished Eagle Scout Award

Morgan Jones, Jr. has been chosen by the Chisholm Trail Council as the recipient of the Distinguished Citizens Award and by the National Council Boy Scouts of America as a Distinguished Eagle Scout because of his outstanding service to the citizens of the Big Country.

He was born September 5, 1910 in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1928. He attended Rice University and graduated in 1932 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. In 1934 he received his Masters in Banking and Finance from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania.

He married Mary Elizabeth Whatley on June 3, 1937 in Greensboro, Alabama. Morgan and Mary have two daughters, Harriet Jane Bass of Irving, Texas and Elizabeth Kenan Keyes of Little Rock, Arkansas. The Jones have been active members at St. Paul United Methodist Church for the past 50 years.

As a businessman and an entrepreneur Morgan has distinguished himself through his leadership positions in organizations like the Chamber of Commerce, Red Cross, United Way, March of Dimes, School Board, West Texas Fair Association, and McMurry University.

The Chisholm Trail Council and the Boy Scouts of America are proud to salute Morgan Jones, Jr. as a “Good Scout, Good Samaritan, and Good Friend” by his “Good Example” to his fellow man and community.
