JAMES O. MURPHREE
He was a Scoutmaster for Troop 143 of Hamlin from 1962-’63. During this period "Murph" attended summer camp every year and seven troop members attained Eagle Scout Rank.
In 1964 he became a member of the Order of the Arrow and attended the National Jamboree as a leader. He helped organize Canadian Canoe Trips in 1965 and 1966 and received the Scouter’s Key in 1967. He was Assistant Scoutmaster from 1967-’71, Troop Committee Chairman from 1973-’76 and is currently the Scouting Coordinator. He was a great help with the 1977 and 1978 Council Klondike Derby’s and the 1979 Northern District Camporee.
He has held various offices in the Hamlin Lions Club, was a member of the Fire Department for 32 years (and a past president) and is a member of the First Baptist Church.
It is with pleasure that the Chisholm Trail Council presents the Silver Beaver Award to James O. Murphree.
