Jerry grew up in the community of View, Texas. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1959 and then from Texas A & M University in 1964. He spent a number of years farming and ranching and is currently the owner of Five J Builders Construction Company.

His Scouting career began as young boy and his love for Scouting has continued. Jerry became active in Cub Scouting in 1981 and then served as Scoutmaster for Troop 272, chartered to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, for seven years. He is still active in the troop serving as Troop Committee Chairman for the last seven years. He has served on the Executive Board of the Chisholm Trail Council and presently serves as an Advisory Board member and is chairman of the Council Camping Committee. In 1987 he was awarded the Scouters Training Award and in 1988 he was awarded the Scouters Key. In 1991 the National Eagle Scout Association presented Jerry the Scoutmaster Award of Merit for his distinguished service to Troop 272. In 1994 the White Buffalo District honored Jerry with the District Award of Merit. His greatest joy in Scouting was when his own two sons be- came Eagle Scouts.

Jerry’s major effort in Scouting, however, has been the fact that he has worked directly with the boys. Whether he was building shelves in the camping trailer, making chuck boxes, serving on Boards of Review, or just whatever was needed at the time, he has given countless hours of his time to work for the boys. His reward is in the fact that he has helped so many young men be successful. He has the respect of his peers and his family for being involved with the Boy Scouts of America.

Jerry is actively involved at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. When his children were in school, he was actively involved serving in the Bowie PTA and the booster programs at both Jefferson and Cooper.

Jerry married Judy 31 years ago and is the father to Jay, Julie, and Jason. He is also the proud grandpa to Emily and Sydney.
