JOE ED BURNAM

This Scouter has a long history of service to Scouting and grew up in a Scouting family. He has the distinction of not only being an Eagle Scout himself, and having an Eagle Scout son, but his Father, the late Joseph Edwin Burnam, was also an Eagle as well as summer camp Director of Camp Tonkawa for many years.

As a Scout Joe Ed attended the National Jamboree in 1950 and 1953. He later worked at the Schiff Scout Reservation in New Jersey. After graduating from Hardin Simmons and completing service in the military, his adult Scouting experience included working on the District Committee of the Concho Valley Council while living in Ballinger. He served on the Organization & Extension Committee and also the District Training Committee. In Abilene he has served as a Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Chairman, Assistant Cubmaster, and District Committee Member. He has assisted with many District & Council events and activities. He was selected to be one of the adult leaders for the Council contingent of the 1985 National Jamboree. He is an active member of the Order of the Arrow. He has completed Timber Tag and Wood Badge Training. Honors received includes the District Award of Merit.

Joe Ed’s influence also extends outside Scouting. He is an active member of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and the Lions Club. Both their son and daughter have played on the high school tennis team so Joe Ed and Nan have spent a lot of time with their school activities.

It is with great pleasure that the Chisholm Trail Council presents the Silver Beaver to Joseph Edwin Burnam, III.
