MARTIN COOKE
He helped organize a Cub Pack at Fannin School in 1957 and served as Cubmaster for two years. He assisted in the organization of a Boy Scout Troop at Jane Long School when it opened in 1959 and was Scoutmaster until 1965.
The next three years he was advisor for an Explorer Post at Mann Jr. High. Their specialty was water sports and they included a Canadian Canoe Trip while Martin was Advisor.
He then served as a Neighborhood Commissioner, District Commissioner, and Institutional Representative. He served on the Eagle Board of Review for sixteen years. He took Timber Tag training in 1958 and has served as an instructor.
He has helped with many camporees and has been a member of the Order of the Arrow since 1962. His Scouting Awards include the Scouter’s Key, Arrowhead Honor Award, and the first Award of Merit presented by the Chisholm Trail Council in 1971.
A charter member of the Woodlawn Church of Christ, Martin served on the Benevolence Committee for several years and was chairman of that committee for three years. He is now on the church administrative committee, visits members in hospitals, and goes to several homes to visit the elderly.
He has assisted the Y.W.C.A. in a program that helps delinquent kids. Martin is a long time Abilene barber.
It is with great pleasure that the Chisholm Trail Council presents the Silver Beaver to Martin Cooke.
