He has been in Scouting as an adult volunteer for seventeen years, nine of these as a Scoutmaster. In 1973 he took a troop to the National Jamboree in Idaho. In 1975 he received his Wood Badge beads and since then has helped with Timber Tag Training and served on the Wood Badge staff. For several years he served as an active unit commissioner for three troops. He has assisted with many camporees and is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He has served on the summer camp staff and has taken volunteer training at Philmont Scout Ranch. He is presently Southern District Scout Leader Training Chairman and Advisor to the Council Wood Badge program.

"Ski" is a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Abilene. He has served as a member of the voters assembly, Sunday school superintendent and choir member. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Abilene Southwest.

His two sons are active in Scouting. Wayne earned the Eagle Award and is presently the member of a troop committee. Walter has gone through Cub Scouting and is now an active Boy Scout.

It has been said that Ski would go anywhere at any time to help someone in Scouting. It is with great pleasure that the Chisholm Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America presents the Silver Beaver Award to Roger W. Sporisky.
