RONNIE CHEEK
A Scoutmaster for the past eight years and also involved in a number of District and Council activities, he has made a significant contribution in the lives of a lot of boys and young men.
In 1978 when he first became Scoutmaster of a new troop at Wylie it took awhile to get five boys to register and some of the first meetings were held in their home. There has been steady growth in Troop #260, now sponsored by the United Methodist Church of Wylie. His own son, who is now in college, was one of his many Scouts who attained Eagle Rank. Another Scout, Richard Gregg, received a National Life Saving Award. Quality is the word that best describes his troop operation.
Ronnie’s leadership extended beyond the Troop. He attended Timber Tag #49 and then became an instructor. He received his Wood Badge beads after attending SC-172 and then repaid the course by twice serving on the staff of later courses. He was Scoutmaster of Eagle Mountain, the Council Troop Leader Development Course. He served as Scoutmaster of the Council Troop for the 1985 National Jamboree.
Personal gains or acknowledgements mean very little to Ronnie; however, he holds the Scouter’s Training Award, The Scouter’s Key, and the District Award of Merit. He is also a three bead Woodbadger and a Brotherhood Member in the Order of the Arrow.
He is a school teacher in the Wylie Public School System and has served on the Text Book committee. He is a member of the Wylie Baptist Church and has served on the building committee. His wife, Linda, is also a school teacher.
It is with great pleasure that the Chisholm Trail Council presents the Silver Beaver to Ronnie Cheek.
