JAMES MURRAY "Jim" GIDLEY

A staunch supporter of the Scout Program is this dedicated Scouter. As a boy he followed the trail to Eagle in the State of Michigan and was awarded the badge in 1946. Twenty-three years later, he became a Scouter starting as an assistant Scoutmaster. He soon became a Scoutmaster, then a Unit Commisioner and finished his service in that Council as a Roundtable Commissioner.

He completed Scout Leader Training in 1970, Woodbadge in 1971, Scout Leader Development in 1972 and the Commissioner Development Course in 1973.

He first became associated with the Chisholm Trail Council in 1974 upon moving to Abilene. He served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for the Woodbadge Training Staff in 1974 and as the Southern District Scout Committee Chairman in 1975 and 1976. He has been a member of the Council Executive Board for a number of years and has served as Senior Patrol Leader and Scoutmaster for two recent Woodbadge Training Experiences. He presently serves as council Vice President of Scouting.

His scouting awards include the Award of Merit in 1973 and 1974, The Scouter’s Key, Commissioners Arrowhead Award and Four Woodbadge Beads.

He is a member of Toastmasters International, The Air Force Association, The Order of Daedalians, Abilene Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club. He and his wife serve as co-presidents of the Alta Vista School PTA.

It is with distinct pleasure that the Chisholm Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America, presents the Silver Beaver Award to James M. "Jim" Gidley.
