On February 8, 1910 the Boy Scouts of America was established. This is a milestone in the lives of thousands of volunteers who have been involved with Scouts. This moment in history came about as a result of the unselfish act of one boy in helping a stranger, Mr. William D. Boyce, to find his way in the fog of London. The Silver Beaver was awarded to this unknown boy for his distinguished service to the boyhood of America. In this tradition, the Silver Beaver is awarded to men and women in the local council for “distinguished service to youth”. No greater honor can the Chisholm Trail Council, Boys Scouts of America, bestow on one of their own.
The Texas Trails Council presented its first Silver Beaver awards for 2003 after the Chisholm Trail Council and the Comanche Trail Council joined to form the new Texas Trails Council. The first recipients of the Texas Trails Council Silver Beaver award were Kent Barnett, Ray Easterling, and Vince Araiz.

The Chisholm Trail Council presented it's first Silver Beaver just as soon as they became available from the National Court of Honor in 1931. The Beaver was presented at the Council Annual Banquet in 1931. For some reason, no more Silver Beavers were presented in the council until the banquet held in 1939.

+ Prior to this year's Silver Beaver Awards, the year listed is the year the Annual Banquet was held and the award presented, and not the year it was "earned" The award was presented in the year indicated for the prior year. In 1995, this oversight was corrected, hence the double listing for 1995. The first 1995 listed (and all years prior to that) was actually for the previous year (1994). The second 1995 listed (and subsequent years) are the actual years the award is for.
The Comanche Trail Council presented its first award in1932 when it was presented to Dr. John Power of Brownwood, at the age of 86. Dr. John Power was the former Scoutmaster of Troop 1 of Brownwood, having taken over that Troop in the spring of 1912. The award was given to him by T. C. Wilkinson, Jr., a member of him first Boy Scout Troop. Other former members of the Troop who were present at the ceremony were Bill Armstrong, Ed Henley and Nat Lowe. Dr. Power was rector of St. John's Episcopal Church on Main Street in Brownwood, TX from 1904 until 1934.
Here is the list for the Comanche Trail Council, headquartered in Brownwood, TX until it became part of the Texas Trails Council. The award was not presented in 1933, 1937, 1952 and 1966. The last Silver Beaver Awards for the Comanche Trail Council were presented on February 8, 2003, at the final Council Banquet held at Early United Methodist Church will over 200 Scouters in attendance.(* = Deceased)
