Robert D. Kluting, Jr.

Robert was born in 1949 in Hobbs, New Mexico. He attended school in Aspermont and upon graduation attended Texas Tech where he earned a degree in Business Administration. In 1970 he married Martha Sneed and joined the United States Air Force where he served 8 years in South Dakota and North Dakota.

While in the Air Force he became a member of the Lions Club and in 1981 when he returned to Aspermont he continued to serve in the Lions Club. After moving to Abilene in 1994 he joined the Founders Lions Club. While in Aspermont, he worked in the oil and gas business creating several new companies. During that period he was active on the Board of Directors of First Methodist Church in Aspermont and also served on the local School Board. Upon arriving in Abilene he became a member of the Finance Committee of Wylie United Methodist Church.

Robert joined Cub Scouts in 1955 and moved up to Boy Scouts in 1959. Unfortunately as he was finishing the requirements of First Class, his troop folded. When the troop was reorganized, he never returned. But upon arriving back in Aspermont in 1981, the Lions Club, who was the chartered partner of Troop 131, asked him to become Scoutmaster. A job he held for over 7 years. In the Spring of 1982 he attended Timber Tag and became active in Roundtables, etc. In 1989 he joined the Executive Board of the Chisholm Trail Council and served as the Finance Chairman of Aspermont. He has served as Vice President Program, Vice President of Administration and presently serves as Council Commissioner.

Robert and Martie have two daughters - one a Senior at Texas Tech and the other a Junior at Wylie High School. Even though he has no boys, he has been active in the program because he believes in Scouting and what it can accomplish.
