Sheila Phillips
Sheila was born in Abilene in 1954 but moved to Lubbock at a early age. She graduated from Coronado High School and Texas Tech University, where she was a member in Sigma Beta Epsilon, with a degree in Education. In 1973 she married Kent and returned to Abilene in 1981.
Sheila has served as a member of the Band Booster Club at Madison Middle School and Cooper High School, member of the P.T.A. at Allie Ward Elementary, Madison Middle School, and Cooper High School. She is still a member and officer in Sigma Beta Epsilon - Chapter XI Epsilon Beta Sorority.
Sheila became involved in Scouting in 1986. Since then she has served on staff or chaired Train the Trainer, Tiger Day, Mom and Me, Lad and Dad, Pow Wow, Akela’s Kiva, Cub Leaders Workshop, Camporees, Day Camp, Webelos Woods, Scout Show, Cub Scout Field Day, College of Commissioner Science, and Timber Tag. She has been a Roundtable Commissioner, committee member of Troop 296 chartered to Dyess A.F.B., Den Leader Coach for Pack 296 chartered to Dyess A.F.B., and Unit Commissioner for Pack 258 chartered to Allie Ward Elementary School.
In 1989 she received the District Award of Merit from the White Buffalo District for her service. In 1992 she was chosen to be on staff for the National Camping School for South Central Region and has served as Camp Inspector for the Region also. In 1994 she was elected to serve as Vice President of Program for 1995 for the Chisholm Trail Council.
It has been said that rarely does someone with Sheila’s dedication exist. But with three sons and a husband in Scouting, does she have a choice? She is always around whether she is asked to assist or not because she likes the program. She is a person who loves to work with youth and the community and lives daily by the Scout Oath and Law.
