GENE LINDER
He was raised in Idaho and came to Abilene in 1956 to attend Abilene Christian College. In 1960 he received his B.S. in Greek at Abilene Christian University and completed his Master of Religious Education in 1975. He has completed all but his dissertation for his Doctoral in Educational Administration at Texas Tech. He shares his life with his wife Jannette, a daughter Tracy Mueck in Waco, a son Martin in Dallas, and one granddaughter.
He has had a distinguished career centered around the religious and education areas. He served as the Minister of the Cherokee Church of Christ in 1960 & 1961, Superintendent of the Cherokee Home for Children from 1961 to 1962, and Minister of the Aspermont Church of Christ in 1962 and 1963. In 1963 he started his career with Abilene Christian University. He has served as Director of Parents Program, Development Field Representative, Dean of Men and Students, Director of Financial Aid, Director of Public Relations/Development, and Assistant Vice President of Information Services. From 1966 to 1970 he served as the part-time Education Director and Song leader for Baker Heights Church of Christ. From 1963 to 1966 and again from 1975 to 1984, he served as the part-time Minister for Old Glory Church of Christ. He is an Elder of the University Church of Christ and a Trustee of Christian Village of Abilene.
Scouting has been a big part of Gene’s life also. In 1976 he became a committee member in Troop 201 and served as committee chairman from 1979—1987. In 1981 and again in 1983 he served as the Expedition leader for the Philmont Cavalcade. He served as the Order of Arrow Advisor for Kotso Lodge in 1981—1982. In 1983 he became a member of the Executive Board of the Chisholm Trail Council. From 1985 to 1987 he served as Vice President of Finance and then served as President in 1988 and 1989. He has been active in the Troop and on the Executive Board simultaneously. In 1987 the Church of Christ for Scouting Committee was organized. Gene was asked to serve as a Trustee and still serves today. For his service and dedication to the Scouting Program in the Church of Christ, he was awarded the MCCS Faithful Servant award this year.
Those who have known Gene personally all share a common thought. He is admired for his servant leadership, his intellect, his energy, his creativity, and his good humor.
