When her son became eight years and joined the Cub Scouts, she joined too. That was fifteen years ago and she is still going strong! Just during the past year she has served as a den leader and coach for Pack 237; was editor of the Pow-Wow book; a member of the District Committee; served on the Day Camp staff; and assisted with Roundtables and Akela’s Kiva.

Millie also finds time to be a Girl Scout leader for the Troop her daughter is in. Her four sons are, or have been, Scouts, and the youngest is presently a member of Pack 237. Her husband, Ward, has moved the family a lot and she has served Scouting in five different Councils.

She is an active member of the Minter Lane Church of Christ of Abilene. She has been described as one who has love for people and "always willing" when called on for a job — particularly in Scouting!

It is with pleasure that the Chisholm Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America, presents the Silver Beaver Award to Millie Hammond.
