Silver Beaver The Silver Beaver Award is a national award presented by councils. Annually, the council president will appoint a Silver Beaver Award committee that will consider candidates and make recommendations. The award is made for noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth by registered Scouters within the territory under the jurisdiction of a local council. Each local council shall be entitled to one nomination. Councils having more than sixty units shall be entitled to further nomination on a basis of one for each additional sixty units.
On February 8, 1910 the Boy Scouts of America was established. This is a
milestone in the lives of thousands of volunteers who have been involved with
Scouts. This moment in history came about as a result of the unselfish act
of one boy in helping a stranger, Mr. William D. Boyce, to find his way in the
fog of London. The Silver Beaver was awarded to this unknown boy for his
distinguished service to the boyhood of America. In this tradition, the
Silver Beaver is awarded to men and women in the local council for
“distinguished service to youth”. No greater honor can the Texas Trails
Council, Boys Scouts of America, bestow on one of their own. |
